  Cooperative Education

The Cooperative Education Program (Co-op) at Cumberland Perry Area Career & Technical Center is designed to acquaint students with the world of work in their related programs and give them the work-based learning opportunities which cannot be duplicated in the classroom.

Students placed in the program enter at an entry-level position. The combination of job experience and a well-written training plan gives students opportunities for continual advancement in their chosen field.

 Who’s eligible?

  •  All seniors are eligible with a recommendation from their program instructor

  •  Recommendations are based on skill, attitude, work ethic, and attendance

 Guidelines for the Co-Op Program:

  1. The program instructor must recommend the student.

  2. The Cooperative Education Coordinator must interview the student.

  3. Each student under 18 years of age must obtain a transferable work permit.

  4. Training Agreement is explained to student and employer by the co-op coordinator.

  5. The employer and co-op coordinator will establish a Training Plan.

  6. All paperwork is signed by employer, student, parents/guardian and co-op coordinator.

  7. The employer will evaluate the student once a month.

  8. The student returns to Cumberland Perry Area CTC for two monthly meetings.

  9. The co-op coordinator visits the training site once a month.

  10. Student cooperative education programs end on the date of graduation. Employers are encouraged to offer permanent employment.

  • Make more effective educational and career choices

  • Develop maturity and self confidence

  • Earn a wage in their desired occupation

  • Land that "first job" in the occupation desired as a career
